Hon. Sharon Muasya, CECM for Trade, Industry, Innovation and SMEs, together with Dr. Erick Rutto, President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), officially opened the 2nd Edition of the Machakos Trade Expo at the Machakos Golf Club grounds.
The three-day Expo has attracted over 300 exhibitors from diverse sectors, creating a dynamic platform for businesses to showcase their products and services, strengthen market linkages, and expand their professional and commercial networks. The event is expected to boost trade, foster innovation, and open up new investment opportunities for local enterprises.
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) continue to play a pivotal role in the growth of Machakos County’s economy, contributing approximately 3.5 percent of Kenya’s GDP and positioning the county among the top contributors to the national economy. This underscores the critical role of SMEs in driving entrepreneurship, employment creation, and wealth generation.
Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, the County Government of Machakos remains committed to empowering SMEs through value chain development, business training programmes, and increased exposure to both national and international markets. These efforts are aimed at creating a conducive environment for enterprise growth and sustainable economic transformation.
Also present during the opening ceremony were Chief Officers Winnie Musyoki (SME Development), Simon Kitheka (Water and Sanitation), Charles Kitonyi (Trade and External Relations), Bruce Isika (Youth and Sports), and Hon. Jeremiah Kaloi, Chairman of the Trade and Investment Committee in the County Assembly of Machakos. The Expo runs from 5th to 7th March 2026.
